JHS & Maintenance Manager
The JHS & Maintenance Manager coordinates, facilitates, and monitors the implementation of the company's Health and Safety programs. Responsible for providing oversight of the company’s safety initiatives, is the gatekeeper of all safety-related information and communication to ensure that all employees return home safely every day while ensuring that the company is in compliance with all provincial and federal safety legislation.
The JHS & Maintenance Manager is also responsible for developing maintenance procedures and ensuring their implementation throughout their facility. They carry out inspections of the facilities and identify any problems which may arise and coordinate resolution to guarantee employees' safety without disrupting business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain all safety programs at the site
- Lead Investigations into incidents
- Maintain Safe Work Practice (SWP) for all tasks or areas of the operation
- Maintain communication with WSIB in regards to incidents and claims (form 7)
- Coordinate return to work of injured persons
- Be the point of contact for Ministry of Labour – visits, communicating incidents…
- Track all incidents in the facility (First Aid, Near Miss…)
- Co-Chair the JHSC, forwarding any recommendations to the Management team
- Maintain the JHSC inspections, minutes and agenda & follow up on corrective actions
- Ensure training for all functions, tasks and hazards is available and provided
- Maintain Training records for all employees
- Be Knowledgeable on the OHSA and stay informed on changes to the Act and Regulations, ensuring all information is passed to all necessary employees and acted upon.
- Oversee the 5S program at the site
- Coordination and point of contact for all contractors (including security)
- Responsible for all correspondence and activities in relation to building security. Including reviewing video footage and door access.
- Ensure all warehouse material is in good working condition (i.e. doors, racks, etc.)
- Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation
- Ensure PM’s are set up for all equipment with vendors and tracked against contractual agreements
- Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Plan and oversee all repair and installation activities
- Monitor building and equipment and place repair requests when necessary
- Monitor expenses and control the budget for maintenance
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
- Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities
- Creating and maintaining reports and metrics when required
Requirements:
- Strong Communication Skills – public speaking, telephone, email – employees, management, WSIB/MOL, contractors/vendors, client
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Intermediate computer skills, Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet
- WSIB Certified
- First Aid Certified
- MHE certified – in house training provided.
- Excellent time management skills
- Team worker, but also able to work independently
- Strong analytical and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Manage time effectively, as you will need to handle multiple functions and meet the deadlines consistently.
- Strong knowledge of Health and Safety including Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations for Industrial Establishments, Hazard Recognition, Material Handling Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle high volume workload, and work flexible shifts including overtime as required.
Working Environment:
- There is constant pressure to ensure the timely movement or product in and out of the distribution center.
- Works in a fast-paced environment within deadlines that are competing and unpredictable. Must handle frequent interruptions and inquiries from Associates and management from internal departments with a sense of urgency.
- Works in a distribution center under conditions of moderate risk of injury – regularly exposed to noise, equipment, and temperature variations. This position requires long periods of standing and walking throughout the distribution center. Occasionally assists with the lifting of heavy and awkward product.
- May be required to work flexible and/or extended hours in order to address business needs.
- Must have flexibility to ensure coverage for a 24/7 facility.
